Galvanized steel strip/Coil is a type of steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc through a process called galvanization. This coating helps protect the underlying steel from corrosion and rust, making it suitable for a wide range of applications where exposure to moisture and the elements is a concern.

"Hot-dip galvanizing" means immersing the steel surface in a molten zinc bath (about 450°C) to form a metal coating on the surface. Hot-dip galvanizing is divided into intermittent batch galvanizing and continuous strip galvanizing. The latter is used to produce hot-dip galvanized steel strip
How does hot-dip galvanizing work?
In continuous hot-dip galvanizing, pre-cleaned steel strips welded end-to-end are passed continuously through a bath of molten zinc. During this process, the steel surface is wetted evenly with zinc on both sides. A stripping spray system directly after the zinc bath ensures a constant layer thickness and a visually uniform surface structure. After cooling to ambient temperature and an anti-corrosion surface treatment, the galvanized wide strips are finally cut to the required length, rolled into endless "coils" and delivered to the customer.
Corrosion Resistance: The zinc coating acts as a sacrificial anode, meaning it corrodes before the steel underneath. This significantly extends the lifespan of the steel strip compared to untreated steel.
Applications: Galvanized steel strip is used in various industries and applications including construction (for roofing, siding, structural components), automotive (for body panels), appliances, HVAC ductwork, and agricultural equipment.
Types of Galvanized Steel: There are different types of galvanized steel strip based on the thickness of the zinc coating and the manufacturing process used. Common types include hot-dip galvanized (where the steel is dipped in molten zinc) and electro-galvanized (where zinc is applied through an electrolytic process).
Advantages: Besides corrosion resistance, galvanized steel strip is relatively low-maintenance, durable, and has a smooth surface finish that can be painted or powder-coated for further protection or aesthetic purposes.
Considerations: While galvanized steel offers excellent corrosion resistance, it may eventually corrode over time, especially in harsh environments or if the zinc coating is damaged.
